Hearts That Purr was honored to once again be part of the Día de los Muertos ofrenda exhibition at the historic Presidio San Agustín del Tucson Museum.
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is not a spooky holiday—it’s a beautiful tradition that celebrates the lives of loved ones, both human and pets, who have passed on. Ofrendas (altars) are decorated with photos, candles, and mementos to help guide their spirits back for a brief visit and remind us that as long as we remember them, they live on.
As a sanctuary and hospice for senior cats since 2013, we’ve said many tearful goodbyes—but this time of year reminds us to focus on gratitude. It’s not about sadness that they’re gone, but joy that they lived and were loved.
The exhibit, featuring many other ofrendas set up by various community groups, runs through November 9th at the Presidio Museum in downtown Tucson. Plan a visit—it’s close to great restaurants and other historic attractions!
