Foster First, Adoption Second

Making sure each kitty finds the right home.

You may find our adoption program a bit different than many other rescue organizations. There is a reason for this. Because we rescue predominantly older felines and maintain a low density population, our priority is finding the right home for each cat rather than focusing on getting a cat out the door. In addition, some of our cats may have come to us under our Feline Guardian Program where their former owners have specified special criteria for us in placing their cat in a new home.

Many rescue groups will flaunt high adoption numbers, yet neglect to adjust for failed adoptions. Adopting a cat shouldn’t be an “impulse purchase” that one soon regrets. Therefore, all of our adoptions must start as a 30-day foster period. During the foster period, we check in and see how the cat is doing. We want to make sure the cat is happy and you are happy before we make it official. Once an adoption is approved, we will require you to sign an adoption contract that is specific to the cat you wish to adopt, but all will prohibit declawing and require the cat to be returned to us if you are no longer able to care for it for any reason. In addition, a nominal adoption fee.

Since our Adoption process starts with the Foster Program. Please complete a Foster Application first. A personal interview and home inspection will follow. You may start the process here: Foster Program.

Adopting from Hearts that Purr

Giving an orphaned cat a second chance for “home”

Giving a cat a forever home by choosing to adopt from a rescue organization rather than purchasing from a breeder or pet store, is the way most people save the lives of homeless animals each day all over the world.  Hearts That Purr Feline Guardians has some wonderful cats in need of good homes.  All cats adopted from us are not only wonderful, but already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for Felv/FIV and microchipped. Plus, many of our cats come with assistance for future vet care costs and free, enrollment in our Feline Guardian Program.

Due to the nature of our mission, when you adopt a cat from us, you are doing a very special thing. Have you ever heard the saying, “You can’t miss something you never had?” Well, all of our cats had a good life and loving home, but lost it all when their owner fell ill or died. If you are like us and believe cats are intelligent creatures, then you know they grieve the loss of a beloved person just as we humans do.  Sometimes, they can refuse to eat and even will themselves to die. By adopting a cat from Hearts That Purr, you are giving a kitty that has suffered a great loss, a second chance to know what it feels like to curl up in the lap of a person they can love and trust.
